Chris Kelly

Chris Kelly completed his B.A. and Teacher Training at the University of British Columbia and his M.A. in Educational Administration at Simon Fraser University, British Columbia. For more than thirty-three years, Chris served as an educator, senior administrator and organizational and community leader, fulfilling a wide range of roles in four British Columbia – Vancouver area school districts and their communities. These included twenty years as a senior administrator; five as Assistant Superintendent in the City of North Vancouver, nine as Superintendent / CEO in the City of Richmond and, most recently, six years as Superintendent / CEO in the City of Vancouver.

As an educator and administrator, Chris’ professional work and interests have included elementary and secondary teaching, Aboriginal education, special education, curriculum development, school administration, professional, organizational and leadership development, project development, events coordination and a wide range of community involvements. He has made several presentations on educational topics – most often focusing on the essentials of effective educational leadership – in a wide variety of contexts, locally, provincially and nationally.

Chris has also served as President of the Canadian Education Association, President of the BC School Superintendents’ Association, Education Partner in the Education Research and Development Inc. – Canada, member of the Board of Governors of the Institute for Global Ethics - Canada; Board of Governors of Science World of British Columbia and the TELUS Community Board.

Currently, Chris sits on the Strategic Advisory Council to the President of the University of British Columbia, co-chairs the working group for the Vancouver Learning City initiative and is a Director on the Board of Governors of the Vancouver Board of Trade.

Chris is President - Corporate Development and Education, for the Education Research and Development Corporation – Canada.

Chris and his wife Deborah, who is also a recently retired, distinguished educator, live in Vancouver and enjoy time with their children – now young adults - Simon and Alyson.
