Heart-Mind 2016: Cultivating Resilience

The 4th annual Heart-Mind conference featured some of the leading minds in child development, education and mental health addressing the Dalai Lama's question, "How can we educate the hearts of children?"

The theme of our Heart-Mind 2016 conference was Cultivating Resilience.

Maria LeRose returned as conference Moderator. Keynote Presenters included: Michael Ungar, Linda Lantieri, Kimberly Schonert-Reichl, Dzung Vo, Monique Gray Smith, Eli Puterman and Shelley Moore

The first day focused on the factors that help children and youth do well when faced with adversity. Some questions we explored included: Why are some people more resilient than others? How can we cultivate resilience in the children in our lives? What can our schools and communities do to foster environments that help youth overcome challenges and thrive under pressure? In addition to the day's Keynote presenters, there were also performances and presentations from children and youth, Mindful Moments, and “Reflect and Connect” breaks.

On the second day of the conference, after a morning plenary session, participants had the option of taking part in either a Big Conversation, Small Group session or a Workshop featuring a program or strategy that focused on Cultivating Resilience in children, youth, and/or the adults in their lives. Attendees learned about new strategies and programs to strengthen resiliency and take away practical skills and activities that can be applied in their interactions with children and youth.
