TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF: WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU?

The theme of Heart-Mind 2018 is Take Care of Yourself. But what does it really mean? We all take care of ourselves in different ways. We have asked our Heart-Mind 2018 speakers and facilitators to share how they take care of themselves and provide a few tips.

Today, book author Monique Gray Smith shares her insights.

Taking care of myself means I have time alone and time with my family. I have a career that requires of me to be an extrovert, but really, at heart, I am an introvert. I refuel and reenergize and connect to spirit and those who have gone before me when I am alone. Time with my family is sacred. It is non-negotiable for me, especially family dinners and night time tuck ins. My 14 year-old teenagers will cringe if they read this, but it’s true for me. The good nights and I love you’s are integral to my well-being and our well-being as a family. Everything else revolves around those two ways of taking care of my heart, mind and spirit.

We are excited that Monique Gray Smith will facilitate a workshop at Heart-Mind 2018 that will focus on the “love is medicine” teaching. Make sure to check out Monique's new books published this year: Speaking our Truth: Journey of Reconcilation and You Hold Me Up. For more information on Monique, please visit her website.
NEW ON HEART-MIND ONLINE:
HOW TEENS CAN BECOME GOOD COMMUNICATORS

How we communicate today has changed dramatically. We use digital technology more and more to communicate, and research shows that texting is the primary method of communication between teenagers.

Social connection is vital to our well-being. Given the vital need to connect, it is important that teens develop the right tools to communicate and connect with others in a positive way.

Our new video on the Heart-Mind Online website offers some of those tools. In this resource a secondary school educator teaches students the skills to become better communicators in different forms of communication:  non-verbal, verbal, and more.
