The mission of the Dalai Lama Center is to educate the hearts of children by informing, inspiring and engaging the communities around them. Our 5-year goal is to educate adults to cultivate the social emotional development of 3 million children and youth. We’re currently looking for a dynamic and experienced community builder with solid SEL knowledge to join our team, and help us expand our reach and programs in BC and beyond.
The diverse role of Program Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day program operations, including community engagement and outreach; ensuring programs are evidence informed, relevant and accessible for our target populations; and the effective delivery of program services and resources. This position also plays a key role in supervising staff and actively guiding the work of a broad team of contractors involved in various DLC programs and initiatives, while reporting directly to the Program Director.
Job Description
• Oversee the day to day program operations and ensure program deliverables are met efficiently
• Work closely with and directly supervise DLC Program Coordinator • Provide support and guidance for a team of contractors working with DLC in achieving stated contract goals and deliverables
• Take initiative in the development and implementation of DLC‘s current programs, new projects and initiatives
• In collaboration with Program Director, assist in monitoring program plans and budgets while ensuring strong fiscal management of program budgets and expenditures
• Proactively engage in community outreach and development efforts in expanding our local, provincial and global networks and reach
• Provide input and support in the implementation of DLC strategic, marketing, promotion and fund development strategies and plans
• Communicate and engage with key stakeholders, including educators, researchers, service providers, and consumers in the area of social and emotional learning
• Represent the DLC and Heart-Mind Well-Being Foundation in the communities we serve
• Convene and oversee relevant program Advisory Committees as part of the development and implementation of DLC programs and projects • Maintain regular communication with Program Director and Pres/CEO and provide regular reporting of overall program operations
• Collaborate with Communications Coordinator and Program Director to develop effective DLC program media content, including social media, newsletters, and website content
Skills & Experience
• Proven leadership, supervisory and program management experience • Experience working in a non-profit charitable environment
• Strong knowledge of the field of social emotional learning for children and youth, and understanding of current research and practice in this field • Ability to proactively engage in community outreach and development • Excellent knowledge of BC’s ECE and K-12 education systems • Excellent oral/written communications skills, as well as presentation skills • Ability to work independently, and as an effective team member; proactively meet program objectives; and seek supervision as needed • Computer literate and solid ability to use a variety of programs/platforms including Google suite, Excel, Power Point
• Experience in program budgeting, writing grant proposals, reporting to funders, are considered assets in this role
QUALIFICATIONS
Undergraduate or Master’s Degree in social work or closely related field.
At least 3 years experience in a program management and/or supervisory role. Additional relevant experience will also be considered.
