Martin Phillips-Hing

Martin is a Registered Psychologist (#1361) in British Columbia and has been in private practice since receiving his Ph.D. in 1998. He sees individuals and couples out of his Abbotsford and Langley offices at Oakhill Counselling (www.psychologist1.com). He is also contracted via the BC government to conduct treatment groups with provincial offenders in Northern BC. Martin previously served as the clinical supervisor at a non-profit community service agency and as a prison psychologist.
Martin grew up in Vancouver but then spent time in Los Angeles and Winnipeg while attending grad school – subsequently returning to BC in 1996. He believes that psychologists can serve as ‘pragmatic philosophers’, thereby helping to make complex ideas more accessible, comprehensible and useful. In particular, ideas which may lead to greater psychological and emotional well-being – including concepts familiar to the DLC such as happiness, compassion, empathy, mindfulness and inter-dependence.
