On October 21st, 2014 the Dalai Lama joined in on a Gratitude Circle with a grade 4 class from Moberly Elementary in Vancouver, BC. Here is one student's reflection:
27 eight, nine and ten-year-old students went to John Oliver to meet the Dalai Lama. Ms. Mung, Mr. Wilson, Ms. Plottel and Ms. Erickson also went. The Dalai Lama was invited to join and participate in a gratitude circle which happened in the Learning Commons. Fiona Douglas-Crampton from the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education introduced the Dalai Lama to the group.
The students and the adults shared many things they were thankful and grateful for. For example a student shared he was thankful for god and family. Juvraj and Mr. Wilson were grateful for each other’s company. The Dalai Lama shared that it is hard to be joyful all the time. He also said that everybody loves smiles and friendship.
The children from Mrs. Mung’s class talked about the visit the next day. They felt the message that the Dalai Lama was trying to give was that we are all the same in many ways. We are all humans, we all have feelings and all want love. Without one another, we can’t survive.
