Join the DLC in Exploring the Roots of Empathy

Schools measure outcomes that they care about. Mary Gordon believes we only measure what we treasure, and unfortunately children’s social and emotional literacy have not made the agenda for most education systems. On Monday, November 8, she will address the need to support the development of the whole child, and share some results of what can happen when we intentionally offer social and emotional education in programs such as Roots of Empathy and Seeds of Empathy.

Following her presentation, Mary Gordon will engage in an informal conversation with Brenda Morrison to explore these subjects further. It will be moderated by DLC President and CEO Lynn Green. There will be time for questions.


Mary Gordon is the Founder, President and the inspiration behind Roots of Empathy and Seeds of Empathy. She is recognized internationally as an educator, best-selling author, child advocate and parenting expert whose programs demonstrate the power of empathy. Changing the world, child by child.




Dr. Brenda Morrison is Co-Director of the Centre for Restorative Justice at Simon Fraser University. She is a social psychologist with field experience in outdoor education, government administration and restorative justice. A particular focus of her work relates to schools communities, and the development of empathy, care and compassion within the institutions that serve these communities.
