Remembering Clyde Hertzman

Dear friends,

British Columbia, Canada, and the world have lost an outstanding scientist, advocate for children and families, and a creative, fearless and loving human being.  And the Dalai Lama Center has lost a dear friend. As we mourn the loss of Dr. Clyde Hertzman we recognize and appreciate his tremendous inspiration and invaluable support for Dalai Lama Center programs aimed at educating the hearts of children.

We were honoured to have had Clyde as participant of our 2009 Vancouver Peace Summit where he took part in a lively conversation with the Dalai Lama.   Clyde was also a featured speaker in our Educating the Heart Series.

We were also privileged to have worked alongside Clyde and his colleagues from The Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) to develop the Heart-Mind Index, a vital tool that provides a snapshot of the level of heart-mind wellbeing of young children in BC.
A true visionary and a great champion of social equality, Clyde was also an inspiring speaker with a unique gift to bring complex scientific data alive. We are all challenged to live up to Clyde’s clear vision of how things can be for our children if we only apply what we know.  We will always remember his passion, his enthusiasm, his generosity and his great sense of humour.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Clyde’s partner, family, and his many friends and colleagues.
