Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life

The Dalai Lama Center is honored to have hosted Karen Armstrong as a speaker at the Vancouver Peace Summit in September 2009, and we are excited to partner with the Charter for Compassion in a new endeavor.

Karen Armstrong’s latest book “Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life" is fresh off the presses. The book helps readers explore the meaning, cultivation, and practice of compassion in our everyday lives and provides a great opportunity for discussion.

The Twelve Steps book complements the Charter for Compassion, which is a call to activate the Golden Rule around the world. The action-oriented steps begin with “Learn About Compassion” and close with “Love Your Enemies.”

Using the book as a guide, you are invited to organize a Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life reading group in your community.

A Reading Groups Organizer's Guide, along with customizable promotion material, is available to help you get started. Bulk order discounts for purchases in Canada (40% off a minimum order of $200 retail) are available from Random House of Canada’s Special Sales Department. Call 1.905.624.0672 and mention you are placing an order for a book club event.

We also invite you to join an online discussion on the Charter for Compassion’s Facebook page. The discussion will focus on one step each month.
