UBC Winter Webinars: Early Learning Research in Action

What’s the Difference? Using Critical Difference to Understand EDI Data

January 27, 2015; 10:00am - 11:00am

When exploring trends in children’s development, the broad question that we want to answer is: “Are our kindergarten-aged children doing better, worse, or about the same as in the past?” HELP has developed a method that communities and stakeholder groups can use to make informed judgments about change over time in Early Development Instrument (EDI) scores. The method that HELP has used to examine ‘change over time’ is described in the literature as Critical Difference.

Join us on January 27th as HELP Researcher, Barry Forer, and HELP Geospatial Lead, Jay Douillard, go beyond this definition and share their knowledge of Critical Difference: What is it? Why it is important? Learn how Critical Difference can help you in your planning and outreach activities and watch a live demonstration of two online tools designed to make calculating Critical Difference in your region, community or district easier. The live presentation will be followed by an interactive question and answer session with webinar participants. Success by 6 Provincial Director, Joseph Dunn, will be joining the webinar to offer perspectives as an Early Years Community Development practitioner in BC.
