Robert Thurman is one of the most influential spokesmen of Buddhism, Tibet and the Dalai Lama today. Thurman met the Dalai Lama in 1962 and he was the first American to be ordained as a Buddhist monk by him.

Victor Chan first met the Dalai Lama at his home in Dharamsala in 1972, 10 years after Thurman’s life-changing encounter. He co-authored the Wisdom of Forgiveness with the Dalai Lama and founded the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education in Vancouver in 2005.

"No one has worked harder to bring Tibet, Tibetan Buddhism, and the special power of the Dalai Lama to American audiences than Robert Thurman."
Pico Iyer

"Victor Chan presents [the Dalai Lama's message] gently through stories, not didactically as a step-by-step how-to manual."
Publishers Weekly

Dr Thurman will be giving a lecture: "Buddhism and Buddhist Art" at the Frederic Wood Theatre at the University of British Columbia on Sunday, May 27. The talk is sponsored by Canadian Society for Asian Arts, in cooperation with MOA. Visit the Museum of Anthropology for more information.
