The Dalai Lama Center wants to hear your voice. So we asked you how women have played a role in bringing compassion into your life. This question was based on the words of the Dalai Lama, which were echoed at last year's Vancouver Peace Summit:
"I have a certain amount of appreciation for others. It didn't come from Buddhism, it came from my Mother." - His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
We would like to now share with you some of the inspiring responses from our website.
Virginia Sowers said:
"I give much credit to my mother, sisters, grandmothers and aunts, who always seemed to know when to bake a pie for a neighbor in need, make a phone call or sit down at the kitchen table to listen. Their examples of helping others at difficult times and also celebrating those little wins with a smile and hug make me a better person."
Linda Rodriguez Nunez said:
"All the women surrounding me [late grandma, mum, sisters, tias, and dear friends] bring a great deal of compassion to my life as well as to the lives of others. They give so much of their time, gifts/skills, and resources so that others can live a happier and healthier lives."
Joanne Conger said:
"The women in my life have shown me the compassion of leading by example. My "sisters" - none by blood, have forgiven me, taught me, guided me through my own manic behaviors, scolded me when I needed a good scolding, they have supported me, held me, laughed with me, they encouraged me to go back to school, to go after jobs I never thought I would get, and have admired my diligence as I moved through homelessness, drug addiction, and through the process of becoming a compassionate person."
You can find all of the responses here.
Stay tuned for a chance to offer your voice once again. The DLC will soon feature some of your responses on our home page. We look forward to hearing more of your inspiring stories and being able to share them with the world.
