Heart-Mind Learning Project

This Heart-Mind Learning project, which is designed to support the heart-mind well-being of children and youth  is divided into three phases and includes background resources as well as strategies, skills and materials in the three sections:

Phase One:
  • Engaging schools, teachers and students prior to the Heart-Mind Youth Dialogue on Oct 21, 2014
  • Creating background understanding about the life of the Dalai Lama and Heart -Mind Learning 
Phase Two:
  • Creating a learning space for each student during live-streaming of the Youth Dialogue with the Dalai Lama (October 21, 2014, 9:15 -11:15 am)
Phase Three:
  • Creating on-going conversations and actions plans
    • This includes follow-up resources, activities and strategies related to Heart-Mind Learning which are also directly related to the Personal and Social Competency, one of the three core competencies in BC’s new curriculum and assessment framework.

The Reflection Journal can be used in preparing students for the event; for note taking and reflecting during the event; and for follow-up activities related to the “Be the Village Challenge” that will be presented to all students at the end of the live-streamed program.

 
The resources and activities in this package are compatible with BC Ministry of Education's Cross-Curricular "Personal and Social Competency" 
 
Personal and social competency is the set of abilities that relate to students' identity in the world, both as individuals and as members of their community and society. Personal and social competency encompasses the abilities students need to thrive as individuals, to understand and care about themselves and others, and to find and achieve their purposes in the world BC BC Ministry of Education, Draft Curriculum 2014 .
